Score one for the Yahoo! search alogrithm

3 June 2007 | Internet, Marketing, Media | Comments

The world seem so Google-obsessed that I just had to share this one, highly particular and eccentric brief adventure in search. My wife and I want to take our six year old daughter to see “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” this season, and it happens to be playing at the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum here in Los Angeles. The Theatricum is a terrific place where I spent a happy summer learning about how to act Shakespeare a million years ago in 1984, and it has grown up a lot since then.

I couldn’t remember the URL, so I Googled “Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum” and came up with a lot of peripherally relevant results but no URL. “Could they possibly NOT HAVE a website?” I thought to myself, so surprised by the lack of relevance on normally reliable Google.
Then I ran the same search on Yahoo! and the FIRST result was www.theatricum.com, the theater’s home page.
In the interest of fairness, by the way, I just ran the same search on MSN and also on Ask.com.  In both cases the Theatricum’s homepage came up first.
