Things I’m tracking for August 11th through August 18th:
- Digital Advertising: A Display Ad That’s Not a Banner Ad – Advertising Age – Digital –
- I’m the Intersection of Four Statements – A bit heady at first, but Joseph gets to the good part at the end and the whole thing is well worth the time:
"Let's say you're putting up some marketing material (webpage, tv spot, YouTube video, social campaign, radio spot, print, …) and you know lots about your target audience…
"…except How they'll respond to it.
"Oh, you have an idea, an opinion maybe, and as John Erskine said, 'Opinion is that exercise of the human will that allows us to make a decision without information.'
"But now you do have information. With as much precision as you care to have (mathematically the 2nd and higher order elements can be forced to 0). All you need is some material from that target audience. Letters to the editor if you're going for a newspaper ad on or offline, blog entries (comments and posts) they've written if you're going purely online, snippets from a podcast or two if you're going for radio time or snatches from a call-in show. Same for video and tv. You get the idea."
- Why Teens Don’t Tweet – "We struck a nerve with a lot of people this morning with our article Stats Confirm It: Teens Don’t Tweet. In it, we explained how a recent Nielsen report shows that only 16 percent of Twitter (Twitter) users are under 25. The response was overwhelming – especially from teenagers who currently use Twitter. "
- News Corp. posts $203 million loss – Entertainment News, Front Page, Media – Variety – "News Corp. chairman-CEO Rupert Murdoch said that his company plans, perhaps by as early as next summer, to charge for all of its news websites and stop the hemorrhaging of revenue that's been draining publishers on both sides of the Atlantic."
- Strategy + Business Resilience Report on Brands Owning Media – Useful and intriguing.

Brad! Thanks for the nod. I’m flattered. I’ll bet it’s because you like ice cream, though… – Joseph
