Have we reached the age of “Snowcrash” at last?

7 August 2007 | Culture, Internet, Media | Comments

Ordinarily online display advertising (a.k.a. banners) simply don’t register with me and I’m buzzing about the web (sorry, but it’s true), but when I checked out my Facebook page this morning I happened to notice this banner from IMVU:

hot avatars

To which I can only say, Holy Moley!

Ladies, now YOU can have a trampy avatar with just the click of a mouse and the swipe of a credit card. Guys, don’t worry that your exercise regimen consists only of sports you can play with a WII– now YOU can have six pack abs in seconds… virtually!

I’m amused that the internet is so infinitely scalable that it can make the deep deeper and the superficial even more superficial.

…and I’m oh so grateful for Firefox’s Ad Blocker add-on!
