Disoriented without my dog.
I came back late last night from an appearance at Search Engine Strategies in San Jose, too tired to go collect Dexter, my seven year old Corgi, from my folks’ place where he was staying.

Then, in the middle of the night, I woke up and stumbled around unable to figure out where or even who I was. It took about a minute and a half before I figured out that I was at home, that Kathi and the kids were still away, and that I could go back to sleep.
I’ve been a bachelor for the last couple of weeks, writing up a storm whenever I’m not working, but I hadn’t realized the extent to which Dex has been my anchor. I’ll collect him after work tonight, and then tomorrow my family COMES HOME!
Pets can be so important, and yet that importance falls out of most discourse outside of things like the Animal Planet channel. What did Mark Twain say? “A dog’s only sin is not living long enough…”
