“Blades of Glory” ain’t bad

1 April 2007 | Culture, Media, TV & Movies | Comments

In our first date in weeks, maybe months, and after a grueling work week for each of us, my wife and I managed to get a sitter and venture out into the world kidless for five whole hours.

We saw “Blades of Glory,” the new Will Ferrell movie with John Heder– precisely the kind of silly popcorn fare that I wanted, and since she’s an ice skating fan and the review at Daily Variety approved, she went.
It’s fun. The more silly you can be going in (e.g., down a couple of cocktails beforehand), the more you’ll like it.

The one nagging question is whether or not this is a homophobic movie. It doesn’t seem to be since the most wildly effeminate character (John Heder) turns out to be straight, but there’s something that verges on the bothersome.
Bothersome but fun.
